Simmering Saturday

Even the butterflies and birds were quiet late this afternoon when we walked in the park. This beautiful butterfly found a place to keep cool. My blip spotter, Bob, noticed him settle on the dark green leaf high above my head. Once settled, he stayed put. Flitting around took too much energy on a simmering Saturday.

It's been another day of soaring temps...somewhere above 90 degrees Fahrenheit...and high humidity. Thunderstorms are predicted again for the fourth night this week. Have you ever tried to sleep when a panting and quivering dog jumps in the bed with you? That's Gulliver! Normally he sleeps downstairs in the corner of our family room. He rarely comes upstairs at bedtime, but when a storm threatens, the only safe place to be (in his mind) is in bed with the people who will keep him safe. Since last night's storm blew down a big tree in a yard down the street, punching a hole in their neighbor's car windshield, Gulliver was probably right to be scared! I'm not looking forward to another stormy night. The lack of sleep is beginning to wear me down, so here's hoping the thunder doesn't rumble, Gulliver stays downstairs, and I don't wake up until at least 7 am.
