Swimming Against The Tide

Someone Missing

Last night Athena didn't manage to eat anything or take her pill, despite repeated attempts to persuade her, and putting down absolutely every sort of food we could think of. She's been ill for a while (see blip for July 16th) and has now ceased washing herself too. We agreed that if she still wasn't eating this morning I'd call the vet for advice when they opened this morning. I called first thing and took her in for an appointment at 10 a.m.

She's now an inpatient at the vet hospital, having blood tests, injected medication, and on a drip. They're going to keep her for a day or so and see whether she responds and gets any strength back. The vet also mentioned that they CAN fit an oesophagal feeding tube if necessary.

However, myself, the Wonderspouse and the vet have also discussed the extent to which we should invade and prolong her life if the initial treatments are unsuccessful. The vet is calling us whenever there is any news, and we're making decisions as and when necessary. Thinking beyond that is too difficult at the moment.

I went to have lunch with my friend Scharwenka today, but was somewhat distracted. It's been an odd feeling. The house feels very very empty, and seeing just the three of them at suppertime today was very strange. They're enjoying eating up all the tins of tuna, and packets of luxury catfood we bought to try to tempt Athena to eat!

We're not daft, and we know that our beautiful white girl, with her gorgeous different coloured eyes, will not go on for ever, but we do miss her so terribly much.
