Ingram Show

I was walking in the Cheviots above Ingram today. It was very clear and, despite the wind, warm enough to keep the top layers in the back pack all day.

The walk ended by 3pm, so I decided to have a look at Ingram Show. This was a small show on a field beside the village. It looked as though most people attending were locals who all knew each other. I found it a pleasant contrast to the big commercialised shows. Most noise came from the beer tent of course!

At one end of the field there was a bouncy castle and, beside it, this bouncy slide. I watched as the children climbed up the side and slid down with glee. The one small girl lost her nerve at the top and was frozen there. Her mother tried to cajole her to come down, but she was too frightened. It took me back to an incident as a child when I was too frightened to descend the slope on a hill. Everyone else had gone down and I was stuck. My Dad came to rescue me but was not very pleased. The Ingram incident ended very happily. Dad climbed up with another daughter and all three slid down together as you see. (It took me years to get over my fear of downward slopes........)
