Swimming Against The Tide

Guerrilla Knitting

Yesterday I spotted this absolutely brilliant piece of artwork in our local small town! One of the things I was determined to do today was to go back and blip it if it was still there, and it was! Hurrah!

This frieze was flanked on either side by this ghost and this pumpkin! I think the whole display is fabulous!

This sort of graffitiesque street knitting really appeals to me. It's EVER SO SLIGHTLY naughty to adorn things, but, unlike carving things or spraying things, does no damage, so it's sort of naughty but only a little bit! Furthermore, knitting (and crochet) have connotations of little old ladies sitting making blankets & socks, so there is also an air of innocence about these fabulous creations!

They really brightened our day today! Although, the day was actually a rather nice one anyway. We went to "big town" after "small town" and indulged in a bit of shopping - the Wonderspouse now has his much-longed-for netbook (which I promised I'd get him as a thank you for being so amazing looking after me this past year) and I have a lightbox for downstairs and, as a little treat, a Stylophone, which is one of the most fabulous things ever invented by humankind!

I also got the relevant light bulb for the bathroom. Guess what - it doesn't work. Conclusion, the light itself is broken. So we start on the "we phone agency, they phone landlord, landlord says it's OK (hopefully), agency phone contractor, contractor phones us" and hopefully we'll have light in the bathroom again someday!

*technical note: those of you of a crafty disposition will observe that this "knitting" is actually a mixture of knitting and crochet! Whoever made these lovely creations is clearly skilled with both needles and hooks! BRAVO!
