Flood Collage

I took the bike into work today. More out of curiosity than to actually work. The floods ensured that nobody could get in and even if they could, the power was off. The good news is that the flood doors kept the water out of the lower floors and while it was still severe, the flood didn't reach the expected levels so our equipment upstairs was safe.

After visiting work I did a bit of a tour around the city. I got some great access being so mobile on the bike. There were lots of sightseers. It is as if the whole of Brisbane took the day off. Probably not far from the truth

This collace of images is a bit of a snapshot of some of the eastern suburbs on both sides of the Brisbaen river. The western suburbs fared much worse.

Just seeing the sheer speed and force of the water travelling downstream still blows me away. There is going to have to be a massive cleanup before all this is over. The good news is that for the first time since the beginning of at least December we are managing to string more than a few days of sunshine together instead of rain.
