Path To A New Life

I live between Nogales, Sonora, Mexico and Tucson, Arizona.  Many undocumented immigrants trying to find their way north will follow within a safe distance from the major N/S highway (I-19) after crossing near Nogales or will travel along other landmarks that will keep them from simply wandering in the desert.

Railroad tracks or power poles are two possibilities.  This blip was taken before dawn.  The poles are heading north.  I don't know if illegals use these poles or not.

I do know illegal immigrants frequently are in our community.  There are safe houses and people do put water in the desert at specific locations during the scalding summer months.  There is a strong Border Control presence, on the ground and often in the air.

The people who are walking through the desert are not the gun runners or drug dealers that are plaguing our communities.  These are the people, coming from south of our borders, looking for a new life...a better life...from the one that they have.  We should not demonize and place all illegal immigrants in the same box.

Off of my soap box now.
