Versailles

I'd never been here before, so this was another Parisien first for me.

We walked to Notre Dame (again) and caught the RER train to Chateau de Versailles. It was all pretty straight forward and interesting to see some of the banlieues of Paris that you don't normally get to see as a tourist.

Again, the weather was lovely. There was a cold wind but nothing too bad.

We wandered around the grounds but decided not to go into the Chateau itself. The building was amazing, as were the gardens with their opulent fountains and topiary'd trees. There was quite a bit of work being carried out with the building and in the gardens but it didn't detract from what was a beautiful chateau.

After many photos and more bread and cheese, we decided to go to a cafe for the quintessential coffee. Canterbury drove me to the loo when he got his camera out and started snapping photos of his coffee cup. It wasn't too bad until he got his tripod out and balanced it on the table. He said I was being paranoid, but forgot that I actually understood the things the people were saying about his actions!

Dinner at a real 'French' restaurant and a carafe of cheap red wine. Mmmm.
