The Five Sisters

Blipped as I sat in traffic heading into the metropolis bottleneck that is West Calder.

The Five Sisters is the spoil heap from one of the shale mines that used to be the lifeblood of the area.
It may sound strange but there used to be a huge oil industry in West Lothian where oil was extracted from the shale deposits. The History side can be found here.
Nowadays it is now a scheduled historic monument, protecting it from being quarried as hardcore for road construction (like most of the others in the area), and provides an important habitat for a range of locally-threatened flora and fauna.
However, they are also deemed as unsafe to climb which also affords some protection.

West Calder was shut (I forgot it was Wednesday afternoon) ....... so I went and scrounged coffee from a mate and arranged to go for a pint next week.

Daughter had another job interview this morning and she seems to think it went quite well.
Hopefully she will find out tomorrow if she is getting it.
If she does she will take great delight in telling her current employers where they can stick it and will see them at the tribunral for constructive dismissal.
