Heart wrenching

THIS IS NOT FROM OUR BUILDING!

Those of you that have followed me for a while will remember that day in December, last winter.

It was stormy through the night, wind rain lashed the windows, wind buffeted them and howled through the chimneys.  When I heard that familiar sound of ladders being unfolded in the stair, I popped out to speak to the neighbour.  There was felt in next doors garden, they'd not had any water in but they wanted to check it wasn't from our block.

Those 5 minutes were the longest ever.  You can not even imagine how sick to my stomach this sight makes me.  Every time it is windy now we are sent into a heightened state of stress and anxiety, fearing for our property.  I'd never wish what we went through last winter (and through last year) on anyone, the stress, the water coming into the property, the battle with roofers and insurers, the turmoil and chaos of packing up the entire house for internal repairs, struggling to get money back from neighbours.  Whilst sad for our neighbours in the next stair, there was huge relief to find it wasn't felt from the other half of our roof.

Chatting with the neighbour though, it brought home this could be us.  This felting was the second half to go on the block next door.  They have been through this once before and now again.  Maybe it's time for some maintenance and replacement of felt before it is us in that situation again.

Another stormy night tonight, another unsettled sleep.
