RSC: Love's Labour Lost

Just back from the live streaming of Love's Labour's Lost from the Royal Shakespeare Company, from Stratford upon Avon.
The play is set just before a war begins, so in this version the action has been transposed to the Edwardian 'golden summer' of 1914 in the setting of Charlecote Park, a stately home in rolling parkland close to Stratford.

It doesn't sound as if it should work, but it does, magnificently so. The theatre rings with comedy and pathos. The Edwardian costumes, innovative set design and Shakespeare's stunning word play make this a treat to savour long after the curtain call.

I'd like to see it again at Stratford before the run ends. It may have done so already. Next up is Much Ado about Nothing (being presented as the sequel, Love's Labours Won) on 4th March for the live streaming, all over the world.
