Zoo Trip #48: Marwell Wildlife (Sat 4th July )

Move along please, nothing to see here, just a tiger in a tree.

I'm making a valiant attempt to blip on the day for awhile so most of today's shots have not been processed and I shall have to add the links to any albums later, and may add more notes or change these.

I journeyed down to Hampshire to see Max and Monty at the Bush Inn in Ovington and also to visit Marwell Wildlife. I've been a member since last August but had only managed two trips to it thus far. There were slightly few racing cyclists than on my journey to Alresford and I made good time, arriving at the Bush at 1240 hr and joining Max and Monty. As usual the team leader Martin took pride of place on the ray, with Hannah and Callum handling the wonderful equine pair.

It was very hot and humid. The inn was doing a roaring trade and had a deluxe barbeque going in the beer garden, but I needed peace and quiet and cool, so I found a footpath walk that ran along the centre of the beautiful River Itchen, as recommended to me by Miranda1008, and formed part of the Itchen Way (see Extras). I haven't blipped the shires because they were blipped only last Saturday.

I found a cooler, quieter pub in Owslebury, the village adjacent to Marwell Wildlife, some twenty minutes away from Ovington, where I had a sandwich and half a pint of Greene King IPA, finally reaching the zoo at 1500 hr, when it was getting less busy than it had been earlier in the day.

My blip of Bagai, a male Amur tiger, comes from Marwell and was taken with my LX100 compact because of recurring battery problems with other cameras, perhaps because of the intense heat. After a frustrating circuit of the zoo without any telephoto capabilities I learned that the zoo was open until 1800 hr so fetched more camera stuff from the car and did a quick second circuit of the park, which is quite large, before they shut up shop.

Winchester Waitrose refreshed me with a cappuccino for the journey home via the A34, Highclere, Kintbury and Marlborough.
