Life's Little Moments

Oh, no! I've got pollen on my proboscis!

It's official - I'm a geek. I know what proboscis means, and can use it in a sentence...  Oh dear.

Hubs and I have had a really nice weekend.  Today we went to a nearby nursery and got a great deal on some spirea shrubs to replace some that had died off in our yard.  While I type this, hubs is outside digging holes ... who's the smart one here, eh?  I also bought a butterfly bush to replace one that didn't make it through the winter.

And speaking of butterfly bushes...my light purple one is blooming and the pollinators are showing up in large numbers.  This lovely butterfly is a very common silver-spotted skipper. It kept coiling and uncoiling it's proboscis while I snapped away.  This was my favorite of the series because you can see how coated it's tongue is with pollen.

My other favorite shot today is of a Great Golden Digger Wasp about to take a paralyzed katydid into her nest.  It was a fascinating thing to watch and I hope to see it again since her nest is in our patio pavers, right below the butterfly bush.  I 3 additional shots, including the digger wasp, starting HERE on Flickr - worth a look if you have time!

Thanks for the hummie-love on my blip yesterday!  They are truly amazing little creatures and I just love photographing them.

Garden Notes:  Pink bee balm is starting to bloom; phlox is starting to blume; dark purple butterfly bush has first blooms open; cosmos are blooming.  And Debbi is a happy gardener!

Toodles,
