Strange Weather

We went to a fantastic chamber concert today as part of the Bellingham Festival of Music. We heard a piece by William Walton, that is rarely performed, called Facade based on poetry by Edith Sitwell. A young baritone did the poetry reading and it was phenomenal. It reminded me of the patter songs in Gilbert and Sullivan. It was fast, rhythmical and he did a fantastic job. So did the players in keeping up with the changing rhythms. Wow.

Then we walked at Boulevard Park and experienced an almost surreal feeling due to the smokey skies. There was almost no horizon and everything was flat and gray except the reflected sun which was orange. This photo is straight out of the camera. I only corrected the horizon a bit. The extra photo gives a further back view of the same scene a bit later in the afternoon. It also is straight out of the camera.

The smoke was caused from a number of wild fires here and in British Columbia. Here there are two east of where we live and one on Portage Island. We didn't realize the source of the smokey atmosphere until we got home and I googled and discovered what was going on.
