DIDN'T WE HAVE A LOVELY TIME......

.....the day we went to Marlborough.

Mr. HCB and I went to Marlborough today on the bus - well, we do get free bus passes, so try and use them whenever we can.  Sadly we didn’t see much of the countryside as the windows were quite dirty - but Mr. HCB met an old cricketing friend, so guess what they discussed most of the way there?

One of the reasons for our visit was to claim a free cup of coffee and a brownie, to celebrate my birthday.  However, when it came, I said I was disappointed to see that there was no birthday candle.  That was soon rectified when I ordered my second cup of coffee - so “thumbs up” to Rich and his staff.  For those in the know, "four candles" from the famous Two Ronnies sketch were mentioned!  If you have never seen this, do watch - it never fails to make us laugh!

We obviously didn’t need to pay for parking, and I wonder if the ticket machine that was being mended had failed to provide a ticket for the person getting a penalty notice from the Civil Enforcement Officer - I guess whoever that car belongs to won’t be blessing anyone with a smile today, as it says on the Post-it Note I left on the table!

A little further along we happened upon four older more mature men with their motorbikes - we got chatting to the one with the fluorescent jacket - who told us that they came from Devizes, Pewsey and Swindon and often meet up and go for a ride around.  They call themselves “The Saga Louts” - a play on words for those across the pond who don’t understand - “lager louts” are young men who behave in an unpleasant way as a result of excessive drinking, but Saga is an older persons’ holiday company, hence “Saga Louts”!

We then went back to The Food Gallery for lunch, where they do a great sandwich, then caught the bus home, and who should get on with us again but Mr. HCB’s cricketing buddy!

Nothing terribly exciting, but a good day out together - with no rain - and isn’t that what retirement is all about - enjoying each other’s company?

Retirement is
when you stop living at work,
          and start working
               at living!

P.S.  Don't forget to pledge if you haven't already done so - time is running out!
