Ice Creams in the Rain

Have you ever seen a group less interested in posing for a photo?!!
You can't tell but when this photo was taken it was chucking it down! I did have to laugh at all the people enjoying the Bank Holiday festivities and eating ice creams anyway!
We met Mrs C and the boys at Blenheim to see the jousting for the first time. It was gloriously sunny when we got there and after sorting out all the children's membership tickets we walked round the palace to the South lawn where the jousting tournament is held.
We had our picnic then enjoyed a falconry display despite the developing hurricane!
Then it was the main event. The squires came in to gee up the crowd and draw the battle lines - there was lots of cheering and booing from the partisan crowd! Then the Knights galloped in on the their horses and geed the crowd up a bit more before a bit of sword fighting, severed head spearing, Medieval heckling and banter and then actual jousting.
It was brilliant!!
It had started raining by the time the show was over but that didn't stop the children climbing trees, sword fighting with sticks and flying the kite.
By the time we got over to the archery stand it was chucking it down but they carried in regardless. There may be some 2024 Olympian archers among them!!
Despite the downpour we headed for the ice cream van anyway! Can't beat a bit of Mr Whippy in the rain!
Miss E was getting whingy - the jousting was boring, she wanted to go to the adventure playground, she doesn't like this kind of ice cream....... so I was starting to get cross. Not to mention soaked and freezing!
We said we were going to get a cup of tea in the cafe.
Lovely Mr L told his Mummy she "deserved it".
Miss E said it was the worst day she'd ever had at Blenheim.
Sigh!!
I felt a bit better after a lovely cup of tea.
The heavens well and truly opened as we walked back to the cars. A proper torrential downpour!! Everything from my thighs down was drenched, the Little Misses' coats aren't waterproof so they ended up in their knickers in the car.
Despite a few little ups and down with Miss E and the appalling weather at the end it was a really lovely day. We are lucky to have such nice friends and such fabulous places to go.
