And Now for Something Completely Different

The extra photo today is more my usual style, but hey, if you can't break out of your usual style at age 69, when can you do so?

Phil and I had a very pleasant time in Skagit County today, just south of us, which included exchanging the piece of live edge wood he bought about a week ago to make a coffee table for another one considerably larger, three times as expensive, and much more beautiful.

That meant stopping by Smith & Vallee Gallery again to pay the extra cost, and while we were there, we had a quick look around at the latest show going up, which opens on Saturday and runs through May 31. The featured artists are Peregrine O'Gormley (do read his bio and click on the "Artworks" link!) and Jean Behnke. You can see an example of Peregrine's work, "New Eyes", in the extras. I had to restrain myself from stroking it...

My errand in Skagit County didn't go as smoothly, but all will come out fine in the end, and after that, we went to The Old Edison for an early supper, where I took today's photo. Local oysters figured in both our meals -- I had two in a slider for an appetizer, followed by two fish tacos, and Phil had seven in the oyster dinner. They were perfectly cooked and couldn't be any fresher! Our server was personable and efficient, we were early so the noise level was low, the ambience was relaxed and friendly, and we'll definitely be going back. (You can see a wider view on Phil's blip.)

Virtually all of our time out was on what I call "regular" roads--not freeways/motorways--and in places where farming is still important. Skagit County is known for its potatoes, grown in the rich soil there, and also berries--we saw innumerable blueberry bushes in full flower.

The sun shone, white clouds scudded across the blue sky, cows chewed their cud contentedly in the green fields, and we forgot, for a while, that Donald Trump is now the Republican Party's candidate for President of the United States--an embarrassment beyond words. (Not that I'd ever vote for a Republican...)
