Edinburgh!!!

Yaay, our special girls weekend away in Edinburgh is here!

Up early and away from Karen's in Girton by 7.45 we drove north to March arriving at Joanne's at 8.45. After brief hugs, and a comparison of bag sizes (mine is biggest....a bit like the rest of me) we trundled along to the station trailing our bags behind us. We boarded the 9.07 to Peterborough, smoothly changing onto the Edinburgh bound train at 9.45. We then found our reserved seats....and slumped, relieved, into our 3 & a half hour journey north. The time flew!! Well, it did for me, and I don't think my non stop chatter bored the girls too much. They are both too polite to say anyway!

We arrived at Edinburgh, after spotting various landmarks on our journey. Durham cathedral, the Angel of the North and Berwick upon Tweed.

At Edinburgh I started to remember bits from our visit 3 years ago. It is lovely. I so love these historical buildings in our old cities. The bones of these tall townhouses ooze mystery and charm. I would love to have seen it in the 16th century. Tomorrow I am going to look for a book about the history of the city.

So we took our walk to find the apartment, booked by Joanne, for our weekend. About a 15 minute walk from the top of the Royal Mile and we were in. A lovely 2 bedroom self catering flat, with views over a lump. Like a small mountain, well, a big hill. Unpacked, my lovely friends announced they had booked a surprise. Afternoon tea at the Waldorf Astoria! It was a total and lovely surprise! I love these girls. :-)

We walked to the hotel, which in itself is a lovely building. We were waited on by lovely polite waitresses, and had a stunning choice of teas, and mountains of cake. We chatted. We chatted. We ate. We drank tea (Darjeeling for me, ginger and elderflower for Karen and Joanne had a 'British Cuppa') We chatted some more! For 3 and a half hours!!!! Then we went for a wander. The weather was amazing, atmosphere buzzing, and company perfect. Walking up and down steep steps and the Royal Mile we got back at just before 9. We have enjoyed a nice bit of bread and cheese....and Mollie's prosecco!

And more chatting as we plan tomorrow.
