Last day in Edinburgh

The very last day of our weekend up north and we woke a bit later. We had to be out of the apartment by 11 but were allowed to leave our cases in there. Our train not being until 4.

The weather was misty and it had been raining, so we kept our big coats out and went for what turned out to be a very long walk. We were next to the Parliament buildings and that is next to Holyrood Palace. We had a wander around the outside of all those historical buildings, taking more photos, then headed up a path to the Robert Burns monument. We ended up looking down on Edinburgh station towards the old city.

We continued exploring, crossing over bits we recognised and bits we didn't, dipping in to gift shops, spending, looking, and still lots of chatting & laughing.

We headed towards an area we had walked through on Friday evening, and found somewhere to sit outside to eat. The sun had come out! It was just like being on the continent. The atmosphere was very French. After a lovely dinner, we walked up this colourful road and headed back to the apartment to collect our bags. Time seemed to speed up, and together with an increase in the temperature, we had to walk briskly uphill with our bags and cases to the station. We arrived with about 15 minutes to spare, but as there was no way we could risk missing the train, it was a relief to find our seats.

The journey back was still fairly filled with chatter. We looked through our photos, laughing still. We ate our little picnic of leftovers, and arrived at Peterborough at 7.45pm where we were picked up my Michael and driven back to March. We said our goodbyes to Joanne and I drove Karen & I back to Girton & that's where I will stay tonight.

It has been an absolutely fantastic weekend with two of my loveliest friends. They made is memorable with their generosity and kindness. So now we are all 50, we are thinking about planning a nice 60th away....the saving starts now!
