In the Rainforest

Quite a busy day today!!
It was Miss L's last day in Year 1. Where has the time gone?!
Drop off was a bit of a roller-coaster this morning. I got emotional watching Mrs B receive her lemon tree, lemonade jar and card from the class, and then I got upset and furious when I went to Miss E's old class to get her things (which hadn't been given to her on the day she left) I was handed a few books  and told that they couldn't find her maths book and her topic and creative writing books "must have been thrown away" in the clear up for the recent inspection. And none of her artwork.
Par for the course really.
I went back to get Miss L after her assembly at 11.30am. She was miffed because she didn't get any certificates! Although we did get her report yesterday and it was lovely - she's hard working, enthusiastic, keen, responsible, engaged, fun, happy, helpful and generally a pleasure to teach and have around.
Oh and she needs to be reminded about presentation and stop rushing in her desire to finish first!!
It was so sad saying goodbye to Mrs B. She's been with Miss L one way or another for two years. A third of Miss L's life!! I managed not to bawl and make a show of myself!
And as Miss L is staying on rather than moving to Miss E's school at least I didn't have to contend with the trauma of it being the last time I picked her up!
We had planned to go to Looby Lu's after pick up but a few mums and children were going to Gawcott park for a picnic so we popped home, got changed, chucked some food in a bag and headed off to join them. It was a lovely couple of hours in the sun chatting, eating and drinking tea while the children played.
From there we went to Miss E's school to see all the work they've been doing in activities week. Their topic this term has been the rainforest and their corridor was decked out with vines, leaves, parrots and butterflies which they'd made. It looked brilliant!
Miss E was proud to show me her particular vine and leaf! And her fabulous rainmaker which has rice and pasta inside and sounded amazing - proper trickling rain! And her head-dress and her Jungle Book poster and her model of a rainforest. (See extras) Just brilliant!!
When we got home Miss E showed Miss L how to make the rainmakers.  Pringles tube, card, lots of sellotape, rice and pasta. Simple!!
