Robber Fly

Security had to be beefed up today in the Alternative Olympic Village when this sinister looking fellow was spotted lurking around.  CCTV later caught him on tape furtively departing the dining hall with a large amount of food. (See extra).  Needless to say, many of the athletes were unsettled by this intrusion and have been reassured by the increased security.

In spite of the heat, WRPerry and I had a very successful morning at Hughes Hollow and as you can see we have both blipped a Robber Fly.   I had never seen one of these before and we actually saw three of them.  They are quite large and creepy looking to say the least, but we were still very excited to capture them.  In addition we saw Blue Herons, Egrets, a Hawk, hummingbirds, hummingbird moths, oodles of Swallowtails looking quite ragged, grasshoppers galore, and plenty of bees and dragonflies. It was a perfect morning.
