Zippy The Great

...or the teeny...

Lots of hummingbirds around right now due to the fall migration to points south (Mexico, Central and South America).  Most of them get along together just fine - if they are different species.  But Costa's hummingbirds attack and chase off other Costa's.  Black-chinned and Anna's tend to do the same.  Actually, the Costa's, which is Zippy's species, and the second smallest hummer in North America, is the most  aggressive.

Zippy took charge of my backyard territory almost exactly four years ago. He has stayed with me year-long ever since. Costa's have a typical life-span of five years. Long may Zippy live!!!
