Ullswater

An exceptionally lovely day in the Eastern Lakes. Woke up (late) to sunshine and blue skies with just wisps of ragged cloud, gentle winds and mild.

The good weather was forecast to last all day so we took advantage and set out to do the Place Fell circuit, out to Patterdale then up to Boredale Hause, turning left to slog up the steep slopes to the summit of Place Fell. Breathtaking views all around almost all the time. Helvellyn to the west with Striding Edge, Blencathra to the north. Almost windless on top such a contrast to our previous visit to the summit in August 2015 when it was almost impossible to stand up.

We then descended north down towards Ullswater, stopping for lunch in the sunshine at old mineworkings. Slipped unexpectedly once or twice on the way down on wet grass!

Completed the walk along the Ullswater Way, a newly marked path around the Lake, a route we've walked a few times before. Great light on the trees and hills on the western shore.

Quite a struggle to select today's blip but finally chose the late afternoon shot on the Ullswater Way.

The day was rounded off by watching the full moon rising above Place Fell as we were sitting in the bar waiting for dinner. Swirling clouds meant the view came and went but for a time the full moon was clearly visible. Managed to get some shots on the big camera but can't post until I get home as I don't have a laptop with me.

So ended a rather special day in the Lakes.
