Not an Auspicious Day

I knew today was not going well when my visit to my dentist, despite her geniality, involved too much communication in code with the dental nurse while she probed each tooth and its surroundings in turn with her long pointy dentist darning needle, drawing blood in the process. It seems I must go back for further treatment next month.

I knew today was not going to go well when we had to arrange a visit this afternoon from the boiler maintenance man to try and sort out the noise the central heating makes in the bedroom next to the cupboard that houses the boiler.
The sound, which acts as a loud 6:30 am wake up call, is a cross between that of a pulsating fog horn half a mile away and a didgeridoo played at the foot of the garden. It starts about 30 minutes after the heating comes on and tends to fade again after 40 minutes but then can appear at irregular intervals after that.
His call was to be between noon and 4 pm. It is now 3 pm and we wait.

I knew today was not going to go well when His Lordship complained of again feeling shivery and having a sore head. This dreadful virus is going to take over the world at the end of the day.
