Nevertheless, she persisted.

Dear Diary,

I have been trying to think of a name for the new Red Squirrel who is coming to the back porch.  She is easily identified by the dark patch on her shoulder.  Old war wounds I suspect.  Red Squirrels are highly territorial and pugnacious and Rudy and Rosamond have continually chased this little one away but she persisted and yesterday she and Rudy shared the bowls.

I have decided to call her "Elizabeth" after the Massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren who was silenced as she tried to read a letter by civil rights icon Coretta Scott King in opposition to Jeff Session's appointment to Attorney general.  The vile Senate majority leader, Mitch McConnell said of Elizabeth, "She was warned.  She was given an explanation.  Nevertheless, she persisted."

The next day 3 male senators were allowed to read into record Kings letter.  Misogyny is alive and well it seems.  But Elizabeth will not be silenced and that phrase has become a battle cry of the resistance.  I am so proud of Senator Warren.  The late senator Edward Kennedy, also from Massachusetts, was called "the lion of the senate".  I think Elizabeth has earned the title, "the lioness of the senate"!
