Life in Sunny Dubai

Karama Shopping Centre

I've been home again all day, and G had the day off as it was Professional Development day. We had a lazy morning, working on different things for our new project, and then G had to go out and teach a student in Silicon Oasis, so quite far out.

She came home for a cup of tea before going out again to Awana. She came home happier today and decided we should take a walk out to get something to eat. It has cooled down again which is very welcome, in fact it was very breezy today.

On our way to Yahala, we heard some music, so went over to check it out. It looks like the landlord of these buildings organised a bit of a fair to bring customers back. They've finished the graffiti and beautified the whole place finished off with mood lighting. But business is down and Karama is uncharacteristically quiet. A duo of Punjabi musicians (guitar and vocalist) and these food trucks and bouncing castle drew a crowd.

We still ate at Yahala and followed it up with ice cream at Baskin Robbins - first time this year!! Gosh. As we were on foot, it was possible to see up close, all the changes they are making (widening roads, major roadworks on the outskirts, buildings marked for demolition to make way for bigger and better etc. etc. etc.)

And now we're watching the Science of Stupid on NatGeo and some clips really are hilarious!

Oh, I meant to say, I was reading the clauses on the new Tenancy Contract this morning, and No. 24 really made me wonder...
"The Landlord shall not be held responsible of any accident/injury sustained by the tenant or any other person inside the premises and also the Landlord shall not be responsible of any damage of the Tenant's or other people's passions in the premises. It is the Tenants responsibility to insure all their possessions & the Landlord will not be responsible for any of the belonging of Tenant & Damages caused."
That is copied verbatim.

And yesterday, when we were at the Court (Notary Public), this message was prominently placed, in fact, it is so important, the company who are helping us setup put the paragraph in the email they sent us to prepare us in advance...

"INSTRUCTION TO DUBAI COURT VISITORS:
We are advising all the partners should wear a proper dress (1.the dress should covers the body from shoulders to below the knees (both males and females) 2. The dress should not be transparent or appealing)."

You can't say I didn't tell you!

I honestly thought things would improve as time went on, but the English now is MUCH worse than what it was when I was growing up.
