Tonto National Monument
After a morning at Granite Reef and Coon Bluff along the Salt River, my fellow travelers and I drove over to Tonto National Monument near Roosevelt Lake. A very nice drive with lunch at a little store in the middle of nowhere. The sky was very hazy but the lake was really lovely with the mountains surrounding it.
This photo is a view from a location along the path to the top.
At the monument there is one cliff dwelling where Native Americans lived in the 1200's. We had to walk UP a half mile trail to get to the site but along the path were cacti and some very wonderful flowers..along with a view down to the lake. It was a great visit and we all really enjoyed seeing this location.
In the extra is a photo of the ancient dwelling and a few more photos looking down from the top.
