a lifetime burning

16 Days

"Got sixteen days
One for every time I've gone away
One for every time I should have stayed
Should have wore my wedding ring

Got sixteen days
Fifteen of those are nights
Can't sleep when the bed sheet fights
It's way back to your side

Well the ghost has got me running
Well the ghost has got me running
Away from you, away from you, away

Well the ghost has got me running
Well the ghost has got me running
Away from you, away from you, away

Got sixteen days
Got a bottle and a rosary
God I wish that you were close to me
I guess I owe you an apology

Old tin cups, little paper dolls
All wrapped up in ribbons bows and hearts
Old tin cups and little paper dolls
All wrapped up in the ribbons of your heart

I got sixteen days
Sixteen days
I got sixteen days
It's like a fool I am"

Whiskeytown - 16 Days

This is my plan B shot for today. I had originally hoped to meet up with Incredibish to take some shots of a steam train that was due to go through the village today, on the main line to London.  Unfortunately the train (Galthea) broke down so the train was pulled by a relatively unphotogenic diesel train.

So instead, here is a still life, inspired by the song that Ryan Adams wrote and performed on Whiskeytown's "Stranger's Almanac" album.  I think you either "get" Ryan or you don't, he's very much a marmite character. An enormously talented singer song writer who has struggled with addiction.  In many ways he has much in common with Gram Parsons.

A wild child, he can often be relied upon to irritate and upset those in a position to further his career.  the story goes that when the song was released as a single it initially did really well until, in a fit of anger, Ryan Adams dared a powerful West Coast radio programmer to take the song off the air. The programmer obliged, and the song soon disappeared from radio playlists .... and so it goes.
