Trapped

A wonderful day today, lots going which were all very enjoyable. We did our regular Saturday morning walk into town for a coffee and to pick up a few things.

After lunch, we set off for Dungeness RSPB reserve right on the SE tip of Kent and England to see what birds we could spot. There was not much around, although many had been seen recently, apart from a real rarity - a "Yellowlegs" wader which for some reason was far from it's normal habitat of North America and attracted a fair number of twitchers keen to make a rare sighting. So that was quite special.

From there it was on to The Pilot pub which specialises in some of the best fish and chips this side of Hastings (The Mermaid in Hastings is, in my opinion, the best). They didn't disappoint.

From there we travelled to Ashford to see Keston Cobblers Club for the 4th time in recent months. They really are an exceptional band of young musicians and are a must to see if they are up your way. They have a bit of Mumford and Son about them, great enthusiasm and musicianship and always willing to talk with you after their performance.

I was expecting to blip a bird or two (the Yellowlegs being too small and too far away) or perhaps something to capture the desolation and fascination of Dungeness (see extra) or maybe a shot of the band but no, what attracted my attention was the cobwebs around the visitors centre at the RSBP. There were countless insects blowing around and being captured on dozens of webs. There must be some very fat spiders around with all this to eat. I wonder, does this qualify for Silly Saturday?
