Rainy Day In Calstock

What a contrast to yesterday, weatherwise! Dull to drizzle to rain and thunderstorm!

Madchickenwoman and I decided not to venture too far today, so went for a stroll through the village and along the River Tamar, stopping every now and then to pop in to see local crafts along the way. I came away with a tiny jug and a beautiful blue bowl and I'm sure mcw will tell you about her purchases! Then to Lische for a truly scrumptious lunch of a goat's cheese, figs and caramelised onion quiche, accompanied by a wonderful salad made with all kinds of ingredients that I've never tasted before. It's quite new to me to eat flowers....... and I won't mention the huge piece of victoria sandwich we each ate!

By this time the mizzle had become rain but, undaunted, we headed to Cotehele to look around the house and hope that the rain would stop so that we could take photos of drippy flowers in the garden. It was not to be - we arrived just after the house had closed for the day and the rain increased rather than abating. But there was a great shop, filled with wonderful artistic creations and a very chatty lady manning it, so we spent much of the next hour admiring, photographing and chatting while the thunderstorm, that had now developed, rumbled and flashed outside. My main blip is of a cheerful mcw in the rain as we were leaving. You would think that we would go home at this point but no - down to the quay and on to the mill we went - by car, I hasten to add - and a soggy walk to the weir which was looking very dark but lovely.

Back home to dry out and take a first look at our photos for the day, keeping an eye on the sky that was by this time clearing some. We decided it was worth trying for a sunset shot, so off to Kit Hill to see what we could get. The colours weren't spectacular but oh what views there were from up there! You could see the countryside stretching out for miles in every direction!

Hunger pangs called, so home to a beautiful fish dinner sometime after 10.30 pm....... a lovely end to a full and wonderful day! (Although, I'm sure you won't be surprised to hear, we did go back to our photos for longer than we ought to have done.......)

I've included a few of extras from the day.

Huge thanks for all the lovely comments, stars and hearts for yesterday's mono Monday blip!
