'Man on Fire'

That's how Michael Lau Photography advertised the workshop with James Green, a drama student with a penchant for parkour and free running.

This meant an early departure on the tram to Nottingham. We met for breakfast in Hartley's coffee shop and then went on tour in the nearby Lace Market, one of the oldest parts of the centre, with narrow lanes and cobbled streets.

James was wearing his (best?) suit for the shoot. We started off in Denmark Place next to St Mary's Church before walking to Maiden Lane, an extremely narrow thoroughfare which can still carry traffic, just. Waiting for our turns to shoot James running from a sprint start and across the wall, we were highly amused to see the number of vehicles approaching unaware that only the smallest of cars could get through.

Lunch. A cup of tea for me as I'd had a filling breakfast. Then we made for the stairway past the Nottingham Contemporary. Lots of stairs, columns, railings and contrast to provide a backdrop to James' acrobatics. Finally, the square by the Nottingham College where James vaulted repeatedly over a wall. Despite being incredibly agile and fit, he was getting tired.

Lorraine, Linda and I joined Michael in the studio for an editing session. Then home via the tram from The Forest.

I was glad that Len had cooked supper. He'd been out on a survey of traffic conditions on the M1 between junctions 23 and 26. Basil spent the afternoon having a great time with his mate Joy.
