New Year lunch in the Borders

Today we celebrated the new year with two of my school friends and their husbands at P&S's house in the Borders. My blip shows the dining table just before we sat down for lunch. As you can see, it has been a lovely sunny day, and there was a beautiful sunset later too.

We worked our way through a menu of mushroom and garlic amuse-bouches, prawn cocktails, steak pie, cheese, cheesecake, and chocolates. The drinks menu was also extensive, starting with fizz, then white wine, red wine, port, pudding wine, and snowballs(!) (NB I did not indulge in all of the above. Mr hazelh, however, participated enthusiastically.)

Meanwhile we discussed (among other things) the NHS, bitcoin, Greece, Dubai, the US, Canada, ski-ing, drinking, golf, running, cycling, tandems, livers, retirement, taxation, empty nests, the Scottish referendum, siblings, green vegetables, train travel, and ailing parents.

After lunch we amused ourselves at the piano with several renditions of Must be Santa. I have to admit that Bob Dylan's version is better than ours!

Exercise today: walk to L&T's for our lift to P&S's house (13,064 steps)
