Gospel & Jazz

I went to a fabulous jazz event at a church in Reading this evening. The drummer is a Pastor of another local church and a friend of mine who goes there and knows him invited me.

The event tied in the history of Jazz music that has its roots in the slavery of America, and how it parallels the ‘story of slavery’ that is at the root of the Christian faith. The first half of the evening we heard a lot of jazz gospel classics with the history intertwined, and the second half of the evening they played more broad and recent jazz music. The band and vocalist were superb, even though they were missing the trumpet player who had a hospital emergency at the last minute! I thoroughly enjoyed the evening. The band do this event once a month around the country and are booked up for the rest of the year!

In other news:
It rained much of the day. I did an early shop before the crowds, got home in time to watch this weekend’s Cross-country skiing from Slovenia, and then had a delicious 2-hour nap in the afternoon! I didn’t sleep well last night so the extra sleep was much needed!
