A Day of Castles

Tomas and Marketa brought the good weather with them and we’ve had blue skies throughout today.  The morning was passed on a scenic walk from Craster to Dunstanburgh Castle alongside the sea with oystercatchers in abundance calling from the rocks.  There was much exploration of rock pools and braving of the waves crashing over them before we arrived at the castle to find it ......closed!

We were not downhearted because it was too lovely a place to walk.  We had a moment of drama on our return as we watched a stoat steal a baby rabbit from its burrow inside the gorse and run down to the rocks to its own nest!  It was totally unperturbed by the watching tourists.

Then it was on to Bamburgh for lunch in their cafe before exploring the grounds and the state rooms and enjoying the huge views from the battlements.  We ended our day with a wander along the beach, where I took my blip.  A fine end to our short break in Northumbria.
