Life in Sunny Dubai

Don't Pay The Ferryman

Wow. Today has been a big day!

We started by driving back to Dubai. A good journey which was much easier to do during the day. Hilde came with us as she's joining us for the Chris de Burgh concert tonight!

We had a wander around Al Seef again, this time in daylight, and ate at a restaurant I've been wanting to check out for a while. Unfortunately, their full menu isn't operational yet, so we had to try their burgers.

The dreaded journey to Sharjah on a Friday night was much better than anticipated. We got there with thirty minutes to spare before the start of the show, and got an upgrade! Pearl to Silver with a much better view of the stage. First time for G & me to see Chris de Burgh, an artist I've been listening to since I was 14 or 15 years old! He was fantastic! Just five musicians on stage. and they reproduced all the songs, making them sound just as good live. He sang all but one of my favourite songs of his and entertained us for over two hours without a break.

My first extra is the outside of the venue - Al Majaz Amphitheatre, built on a man-made lake. The second extra is the view across the lake of what looks like a very grand mosque. It would be great to return to this area and have a walk along the entire Corniche.

It was super to be reacquainted with Sharjah which still maintains a very simple life. There were loads of families enjoying being outdoors on the corniche. They laid out mats on the grass and were picnicking, even as we left around midnight! It was a surprisingly pleasant evening with a cool breeze and low humidity, so we took the long way back to the car. It's made me really regret missing the Emile Sande concert in February.
