Crossing to Mull

We had rain during the night but woke to blue skies.

We had a lovely, friendly stay in what turned out to be the home village of David Coulthard near Kirkcudbright. His family and their business are still there as is his 'museum'.

We spent some time (too much) exploring places on the Solway Firth we had both stayed in childhood and found the infamous lighthouse on Ross Island where the lighthouse keeper was murdered just before my family's trip back in the '60s.
Our host told us they got who did it. It was the assistant keeper, but we don't know why!

The rest of our journey was slightly stressed as we had a schedule to keep for the ferry crossing from Oban to the Isle of Mull.
We allowed ourselves a coffee break in Thornhill and discovered a lovely Italian coffee shop originating from 1929.

As it happened we were 3/4 of an hour ahead of last check in time. They asked us if we wanted to go onto the earlier ferry if there was room. We said yes and within minutes we were on and they were closing the ferry door behind us!

I loved the dramatic light on this lighthouse as we sailed away from Oban (not the murder one). I had to dash out on deck to capture it. Luckily, after quite a short crossing we arrived to a lovely sunny evening.
Once in our hotel in Tobermory we had time for a stroll down to the harbour to enjoy it before dinner.
