Independence

It's 7 PM and the illegal fireworks have started going off in the neighborhood - based on past experience, they will continue well past midnight.  I am particularly concerned about such things because I know someone who lost an eye as a child playing with firecrackers.  But the Indian reservations are not covered by the law against fireworks sales, so they are a ready source of supply.

The vertigo was a lot better today, such that I was able to drive (!) to the supermarket by myself and stock up on all the things I'd run out of.  I spent a lot more than I usually do in one shopping trip.  Of course there were hanging baskets for sale to mark the day, and I've blipped one here.  I think they sold quite a few of them.
