Arizona Dreamin’

Thirsty Bird

Still one day behind but will remedy that later today.  Mom and I had a relaxing Independence Day.  I forgot to call off the caregiver so I'll be paying double but it was worth it.  She brought BBQ ribs with her for dinner and they were delicious.  That woman can cook. I keep asking her how she gets Mom to eat as much as she does because I struggle to get stuff into her.  Got a few tips.  She has back-to-back doctors appointments next week so I'm hoping she has gained some weight (she was down to 108).  She looks better to me than she has in a long time.

I got up early and took a quick trip to Madera Canyon.  The Lodge was open but I was there by myself.  I only stayed about a half hour because despite the nice breeze and the temp only around 95°/35° at 5200', I was sweating up a storm.  I spotted this Arizona woodpecker (yes, that's its real name) getting a drink way over in the fountain.  I swear, if you plan on taking pictures of birds, especially smaller ones, you have to develop patience.  It took this guy about four minutes before he finally turned his head away from the water.  A photo of his back, of which I took many, would have made for a pretty boring blip.
