Boscastle on our last day

We have suddenly found we at the end of our holiday, but there are still lots of places we want to visit. It means we will have to come back one day - so that is something to look forward to.

We went to Boscastle, via Tintagel as Henry wanted to buy something he had seen there. We arrived at Boscastle at 11, perfect timing. We found a lovely hotel/restaurant where we could sit outside by the babbling brook. There we enjoyed our final Cornish cream tea of the holiday. It was a little overcast, and we had quite heavy rain overnight, but it stayed dry and was still very warm. After our tea and scones we walked through the village to the harbour. We clambered up the slate rocks from which I took this looking out to sea. Every harbour we have visited has been different. This one is unusual in that it snakes out to the sea. I don't know if any Poldark has been filmed here, but it certainly lends itself to moody handsome sailors and big sailing ships with lots of tall rigging....I can almost see it sailing around the corner!

Back through the village we looked at a short display of the terrible flooding which almost obliterated Boscastle in August 2004. I remember it clearly. You wouldn't know it now; the village has been restored beautifully.

Home via Bodmin but no time to stop, so we will revisit as I said, and include Bodmin next time.

Took the awning down and packed as much away as possible. We've decided to go home early tomorrow instead of leaving tonight. So that meant we had a couple of hours down at the site swimming pool this afternoon. It had turned hot and sunny again, so Henry and I swam, and Jon enjoyed his book in the shade. With the schools breaking up yesterday, the campsite has suddenly filled. We are glad we had the site almost to ourselves while it was quiet. It has been really nice to have an early holiday, but it's going to feel like a long time until the next break (Xmas I expect). We are already discussing where we could go next year, but there is a small matter of this year's debt to be settled first :(

Finishing up bits of food, so we had beans on toast, bacon and fried onion for tea! Tomorrow we have Cornish pasties for our journey, plus tomatoes, 2 apples, some crisps (various) & orange juice. I can do tea and coffee in the caravan when we stop and the toilet is clean and refilled. So we are pretty much ready to go home now.

I've included a couple of extra photos. The hydrangeas on site are stunning, and one of us with our cream tea!
