THE CENTRAL

Feeling slightly better today.  Which was good as I needed to go to Gateshead.  I have a hairdressers appointment next week and because this will involve colouring I needed to go to the salon  for a " patch test " - and to pay my £10 deposit.

The salon is situated in one of the arches underneath  the bridge carrying the  East Coast Rail Line. And just round the corner is The Central pub which is my blip shot.

The Grade II-listed Central was  built in 1854.  Dubbed “The Coffin” because of its unusual shape it deteriorated over a number of years. It was bought by a local pub chain in 2012 and at that time it had a leaky roof, crumbling stonework and broken windows. The million pound refit restored the building – regarded as one of the town’s unique architectural gems – to its original Victorian splendour. The funds came from  Gateshead Councils Heritage Initiative, Townscape Heritage Initiative and the Lottery Fund.  It reopened to the public in February 2013.

I did some shopping in Gateshead - which included a very nice  M & S cardigan from a charity shop which only cost £2.

The weather today was quite nice - lots of bright sunshine and not too chilly.

** Progress with the cat flap - Tino was encouraged to push the cat flap open so he could come indoors. ( once ) And Lily has finally gone out and back in through it if I hold it open.  Its slow progress but at least its progress.
