The Frost Zipper

The temperatures dropped overnight, and in the morning, both my husband's car and mine that are sitting outdoors were frozen solid. It took a lot of effort to chip away the ice so I could drive to work. And even then, my windshield was covered in glittery frost for the first few miles, until things warmed up inside.

It had been a while since I had visited Millbrook Marsh, and so I decided to go there and see what the colder temperatures had wrought. And of course, I was richly rewarded. Every leaf and branch was covered in bits of frost. Some looked as though they'd been dipped in sugar. Aside from the boardwalk creaking beneath my feet, the marsh was a quiet world of white and gold. Several mallards swam by on the spring run.

There were bits of frost between the boards on the boardwalk, and I always stop to marvel at those. The frost reminded me of a zipper, and so here is our photo from the winter marsh: the frost zipper, on a cold and wintry December morning. Do not miss winter's frozen glories!

The lyrics running through my head were Stevie Nicks singing about a masterpiece, a quiet world of white and gold. And here is the gorgeous song those lyrics are from. We love you, Tom Petty, and we wish you were still with us. My soundtrack for this day is a duet by Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty: Insider.  I'm including a studio version and a live performance. Both are worth a watch/listen.
