A wonderful walk and a train ride

After the rain last night it was still a bit overcast this morning, but then the sun came out at about 9am and it turned into a glorious day. A friend phoned me this morning and said it was snowing near Guildford. We never had any snow but it was certainly very cold all day. Luke also phoned me and said they too had snow in Durham.

It could not have worked out better as after days of grey and dull weather, today being bright and sunny was the perfect day for a walk. It was the day I was meeting two friends to go for a long dog walk followed by a pub lunch - ostensibly to plan the quiz night for parents of Thomas' house at school!

They came down from London by train and we met at the station and had a wonderful walk, with the dogs, in the woods of Oxshott Heath. I recently read an article that after the war families used to come to Oxshott Heath by train and enjoy the fresh countryside air, In those days there was even a little coffee kiosk that is sadly lacking today. As the station abuts the woods I can see why it was a popular destination to come to. After a long walk in the woods we then walked to the next village,(Cobham) where we had a delicious pub lunch. And yes we did plan the quiz night so that is now sorted! We could have walked back home again but as it was getting late we got the train from Cobham, I hopped off at Oxshott and they continued back up to Clapham. I took this shot as the train was departing after I had got off - I loved the warm golden light of the late afternoon.

It's good luck to Adam for tomorrow when he has his first interview with a panel of scary academics for a PhD program he has applied to.

Gavin is back home tomorrow, and the weekend beckons.
