Hot Crossed Buns

One-day-old price at the supermarket, so I could not resist them.
Still very tasty with citron and candied fruits.
I sang the old song all the way home with them:
"Hot Crossed Buns,
One-a-penny, two-a-penny,
Hot Crossed buns..."
Something for the beginning of Lent, I believe,
And an Old European tradition.

I have received tradition correction from several of you. Of course, with the cross on the buns they should be for Good Friday.
The supermarket jumped the shark.
These will not last the 40 days, unless I freeze them of course.
Usually we do not have sweets on Good Friday. I better take care of them before that!
