The swans are nesting

The swans on Mallards Lake have had a rough time of it in recent years. The original pair raised several broods until the cob died owing to an infection caused by mouldy old bread left in the water.

It was at least two years until a new mate appeared, or a new pair took residence. They successfully raised a brood in 2017 and were on track last year until heavy rain raised the lake level, flooded the nest and destroyed the eggs. Hoping for a better outcome this year.

We saw our first brood of ducklings on the lake this morning. So small and vulnerable and impossible to take a shot of as they were scuttling rapidly away from us.

Dont forget Mono Monday tomorrow: Commonplace from a different perspective. I'm looking forward to seeing your entries. Hopefully awarding hearts and HMs by Tuesday but it may be later as Tuesday and Wednesday are busy.
