Where there's a will, there's a way

Dear Diary,
 
All my squirrels lose a bit of weight over the winter despite my feeding them.  Just the struggle to stay warm and get through the snow does it I think.  Elizabeth, my smallest red squirrel, has lost just enough weight to let her access the "squirrel proof" feeder if she balances her head on the perch to take off a bit of pressure on the mechanism that closes it.  It was hysterical to watch her figure it out.  The chickadee was not so amused.  Elizabeth was only able to snag a few seeds this way but it really shows how very clever they are.
