Red Pipe, Blue Water

Dear Diary,

I stopped at the pond to see what I could see and this is what caught my eye.  The red pipe is for the use of fire fighters should a forest fire breakout.  Since the devastating fire of 1948 which burned a large part of Maine, these pipes have been put in many local ponds.  I've always thought it looked like a submarine periscope and it always makes me smile thinking about the turtle navy patrolling the pond in their little red submarine!  ("We all live in a yellow, I mean red, submarine..."  You'll be singing that song all day!)

The wind has been a bit of an issue the last few days.  It took down an apple tree branch in the yard and blew over St. Francis who, I am happy to report, was not damaged.  Strange spring we are having.
