Busy day on the river

There was a lot of activity at the boating club this morning. Here's a selection of the many rowers enjoying the river. When I walked past at 09:15 there were the unmistakable smells of a BBQ. It's a charity event in which the participants are trying to row over one million meters in 13 hours. The first boats were in the water at 07:30. The rowers have to turn here, just under the pillars of the railway bridge, because the water becomes too shallow. You can see the green mud banks, showing how low the tide is just now.

It's slightly overcast, very warm and a bit muggy. We're supposed to get rain later on and overnight which will save me from watering the garden again. Meanwhile, after an hour's walk with Otter and Flora, it's a more conventional breakfast of toast for me then coffee with the four year old, baby sister and their family.

Wishing you all a good weekend.
