An ordinary life....

Who Dares Wins...

Backblipped

Another lovely, sunshine day :-)

Again I spent the majority of it with a paintbrush or a pen in my hand.  Actually on reflection it was a pen as I completed a paint/doodle that I started yesterday.  David enjoyed some time at the driving range.  He's playing in a medal on Wednesday and is trying to get in as much practice as possible!

After days and days of having no notion to pick up my camera, I suddenly had the urge (phew!  I was beginning to worry that I'd lost my photography mojo to paint/doodling!) so as it was such a lovely evening, we bundled Lola into the car and headed off in search of a sunset.

We found ourselves not too far from home, at the Sir David Stirling Monument.

Sir David Stirling (1915-1990) was a Scottish soldier in the Scots Guards , who joined the newly formed Commandos force.  He went on to form a new unit of 67 men, known as L Detachment Special Air Service Brigade’, better now known as the SAS.  Their motto, Who Dares Wins, was personally chosen by him.

He was eventually captured by the Germans in 1943, and after escaping four times was incarcerated in Colditz till the end of he war.

A fascinating man who was described by Field Marshal Montgomery as "quite mad, quite, quite mad" and I have to say, the more I learn of him, the more I agree.

Sadly no spectacular sunset due to clouds, but it was very pleasant to be sitting outside in the warm, peaceful countryside, gazing at the lovely views Sir David enjoys from his vantage point on the rocks.
