Wedding Day ...

…. Goodman’s Bay Beach, Nassau, The Bahamas.

Today was the wedding of our niece Rachel and her fiancé Kody!  And, boy, what a day it was!

We made landfall in Nassau as the sun was coming up ….. around 6:30 a.m. Shortly after we docked another cruise ship pulled up alongside of us.  But ….. it’s not nearly as big as our ship …. See extra!

Since the wedding wasn’t going to be until later this afternoon and since this is the first time we have ever been to The Bahamas we decided to disembark in the morning and take a guided bus tour of Nassau. Richard had found a great touring company on TripAdvisor and we bought tickets last night.  We asked if Bev and Harvey wanted to join us but they did something else.

Both the bus tour and our guide were fantastic.  We started the tour by going to a Rum Cake factory where we were given samples and the opportunity to purchase some …. we didn’t!  Our guide picked up a bag of rum cakes …. she gave these away to folks that answered her questions correctly during the tour! After leaving here we were driven to the Atlantis Resort where we had half an hour to explore ….. what an amazing place! Most of the other people on the tour went into the casino …. but R and I walked around outside checking out all the beautiful (and huge) yachts docked in the marina.  From there we went to a few more places …. including a winery and rum distillery.  Do you sense a theme here?!? We are not drinkers at all but we still enjoyed the tour and seeing parts of Nassau that you wouldn’t probably see on your own.

After the tour was done we made our way back on board so we could have some lunch and get ready for the wedding.  The invitation said it was beach formal but we had heard from my brother that because of the heat casual dress was acceptable.  I still wore a dress and R wore slacks and a white shirt.  But the dress I wore was lighter than the one I had originally planned to wear.

It was soon time to leave of the beach so we met Bev & Harvey and made our way onshore again. We went straight to the taxi station where we ran into the rest of my family …. minus the bride! Unfortunately we all were crammed into one taxi van …. all twelve of us plus the driver!! And with no air conditioning!  Wow! Was that the most uncomfortable ride EVER!  Luckily I was up front where I had more room but still on AC! When we got to Goodman’s Bay Beach we all piled out of the van and made arrangements for the driver to come back (with two taxis!) later on.  Then we had to sit and wait for the wedding to start ….. about an hour! Some of us walked down to the water …. where I got this great photo of my niece Caroline (on left) and Jess!

The wedding was beautiful …. even though we couldn’t hear any of their vows and it was unbearably hot in the sun! Their almost four year old son was the best man! How cute is that!  I have so many great photos from the wedding and I hope to put a collage together soon.

Once the wedding was over we posed for some pictures and by then the two taxis had arrived to take us back to port.  R & I returned to our stateroom to change, grabbed a little something to eat and then went to the reception.  The reception was nice and we were able to spend some time with my brother and some others we haven’t seen since getting on ship!

Tomorrow is the perfect day at Coco Cay …..
