The Lehman Trilogy

On a cold September morning in 1844 a young man from Bavaria stands on a New York dockside dreaming of a new life in the new world. He is joined by his two brothers and an America epic begins. The story of the family and the company that changed the world was told in 3 acts.

I had booked to see the live broadcast of this National Theatre play a few weeks ago, but the Forum Cinema in Hexham was closed due to asbestos around a few pipes. The cinema reopened this week, just in time for the encore broadcast.

It was brilliant. I have to admit to dozing off in the third act............

I arrived at the cinema in a rush and could not understand why there was no one around. It started at 7.30pm and not at 7pm as all the streamed performances do. Here you see the almost empty bar.

Who would want popcorn to watch such a serious play? Well two people did!

The dietetic assistant came today to see how Mum is faring. She has lost 4 pounds which did not surprise us. More input required.

Alistair and Nick came and moved furniture for me so I can get the house put straight (finally).

Brian and Jean came to see Mum. A visit from Ann, the deacon, overlapped theirs.

Quite a day. The play finished at 2318.

Simon Russell Beale is one of my favourite actors ever since I saw his play Ariel in The Tempest at the Theatre Royal. Tonight he played various roles, including a 6 year old boy and a trapeze artist!!
