Where we've come from

It looks like we've judged the weather perfectly.

An easy day making our way from Staveley to Pinnacles Hut. It wouldn't have been any fun on the track yesterday. There is plenty of water in the rivers and streams and they've obviously been much higher.

We lunched under a waterfall, took time to explore and enjoy the beech forest and bird life.

Fine weather and neither too warm or cool made for an enjoyable day. After a pick-me-up at the hut JT and I scrambled up onto a rocky outcrop above the hut. A perfect spot to share in the sun with the resident Skink population.

This is the view we looked back on - gorgeous Beech forest, old volcanic rock outcrops, the Canterbury Plains stretching to the distant Port Hills (where Christchurch lies at the foot of) and Banks Peninsula.

See it large

Dinner of beef curry with vegetables, followed by chocolate mouse with dried apricots follows. Oh, and a nip of whiskey for her and whatever gin he supplies for him.

A very good day that promises to be a cooler night than we're used to.
